INL is seeking a highly-qualified, self-motivated Digital Design Engineer to join the Nano-IC Group. The group focus is on bringing advanced nanoelectronics, researched and fabricated at INL into mainstream applications within the semiconductor and biomedical markets.


Job Requirements and Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for embedded systems hardware development and SoC complete design flow for those areas of application that include embedded controllers, DSP and serial interfaces. We are looking for someone capable to be a major contributor to the on-board biomedical system platforms and System-On-Chip (SoC) semiconductor components and to collaborate with the Hardware team with a solid experience in developing high quality embedded software.


Desired Skills and Experience

  • MSEE degree with 5+ years of experience in the role;
  • Strong hardware coding experience in Verilog/VHDL, defining block-level architecture and an HDL / logic-level implementation (RTL);
  • Experience in the complete Digital Design flow (Simulation, RTL Synthesis, P&R, DRC, and LVS) in either Cadence or Synopsys environment targeting CMOS processes (using standard cell libraries);
  • Experience in DSP (Digital Signal Processing) block modeling with Matlab or other modeling tool (FFT, IFFT, digital filters, IIR, FIR, and math functions);
  • Experience in SoC developed with embedded controllers (preferably, ARM family devices) and able to target to either FPGA (Xilinx) or ASIC;
  • Hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded targets;
  • Familiarity with debugging and test equipment, tools and methodologies;
  • Capability to work both independently and concurrently within a small team environment;


Additional experience in IC design would be considered a plus and one or more items in the following list would be desirable:

  • Integration of basic analog building blocks (ADC, DAC and analog filters) for sensor signal acquisition into SoC designs;
  • Hands-on mixed-signal design (CMOS target processes) including either analog simulation (SPICE-type simulators);
  • Knowledge and experience of IC testability and manufacturability for cost effective design-for-test solutions.

Creative thinking, interested in applied science, willing to work in a team, communication, organizational and reporting skills.
