About Western

Since 1878, Western University has been committed to serving our communities through the pursuit of academic excellence and by providing students, faculty, and community members with life-long opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural growth. We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference.

About Us

It’s exciting times for the Faculty of Social Science at Western University as we have jumped 57 positions on the QS World Rankings, moving from 148 to 91 in just two years! Thanks in part to an enhanced research profile, as well as the outstanding leadership, faculty and staff, the world is taking note of our progress towards a Faculty-wide renewal.

With plans of hiring approximately 50 tenured track faculty over the current four-year plan and having recently opened the new Institute for Social and Economic Policy to enhance research synergy between existing centres, the Faculty of Social Science will continue to be a destination of choice for students, faculty and staff.
The Director of Development will support one of Canada’s largest Social Science Faculties by leading and participating in the full scope of development activities relating to the discovery, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship of a portfolio of prospects and donors. This incumbent will be an expert in designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and managing effective, innovative and transformative fundraising strategies.

To be successful in this role, you will be goal orientated and can effectively collaborate to achieve fundraising or revenue generating campaigns and targets. You possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written and have an innate ability to build strong and healthy relationships with all types of people, both internally and externally. You have strong project management skills and are seen as flexible, creative, strategic, pro-active and come to work with a can-do, enthusiastic attitude.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Undergraduate Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or related discipline preferred; Masters degree preferred
- Accreditation through Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is preferred
- 8 years' senior leadership experience securing six and seven-figure financial agreements within the private sector or similar levels of major gifts in the charitable sector
- Experience leading a fundraising or revenue-generating portfolio towards multi-million targets
- Experience with strategy development, implementation and evaluation related to fundraising
- Experience successfully managing multiple projects from conception to completion within tight prescribed deadlines
- Experience fundraising within a university or other complex non-profit environment is preferred
- Willingness to travel for meetings, with a valid Ontario driver's license and access to own vehicle

We will begin to review resumes as of February 20, 2018 and the posting will remain open until filled.
