The Photon Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary research centre in which physicists, chemists, engineers and material scientists use light to enable science as well as to develop new ways of generating, manipulating and detecting it. We are based in a state-of-the-art; purpose-built facility and benefit from a comprehensive suite of laser sources covering a wide range of wavelengths, energies and pulse durations. The PSI houses a number of research facilities and centres which includes the EPSRC National EPR Service and the Henry Royce Institute.

 

Reporting to the PSI Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery and maintenance of the PSI ultrafast spectroscopy facility, supporting users in facility use, and undertaking contracted services.

 

You will have a degree, or a relevant equivalent qualification, in a physical sciences or engineering discipline. In addition you will have (or expect to shortly receive) a PhD involving the use of ultrafast lasers. Demonstrable experience of using, aligning and maintaining equipment used for ultrafast laser science, and of using ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopic techniques, is required. You will also have excellent analytical and IT skills, and experience in analysing data using for example: LabVIEW, MATLAB/ Mathematica/ Origin and Excel.
