DESCRIPTION

 

The Genome Center at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for the Technical Director position of its Metabolomics Service Core.

 

This position will have general responsibility for maintaining and improving services at the Genome Center’s Metabolomics Service Core Facility and report to the Faculty Director, Professor Oliver Fiehn. The incumbent will provide guidance, and monitor all technical aspects of the Core, overseeing sample preparation and throughput, scheduling sample analysis, maintaining operation of the equipment, advising users on study designs including sample preparation and options for handling and interpretating data, providing reports, training staff and researchers, writing grant proposals to maintain the core with state-of-the-art equipment, and representing the Metabolomics Core at scientific conferences. In consultation with the Faculty Director and other Core staff, the Technical Director will be responsible for the budgetary aspects of the Core, including monitoring account balances, advancing recharge structures and rates, and preparing budget reports in collaboration with the administrative staff of the Genome Center.

 

The Technical Director will strive to increase efficiencies, as well as reduce costs, devising and implementing routines, preventative maintenance schedules, monitoring charts and other measures to improve quality of metabolomic data and scientific reports. The Incumbent will evaluate new technologies and equipment, and refine and implement new assays in consultation with the Faculty Director and the Advisory Board.

 

The UC Davis Genome Center facilitates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Annual funding is approximately $21 million from multiple sources. The Metabolomics Core enables metabolomics projects and data submissions for more than 400 projects and 25,000 samples per year. The Core currently employs more than 10 FTE, has 16 mass spectrometers and hosts 18 databases and software resources.
